HIDING BIRCH FARM
Hiding Birch Farm is a small, two human, one “working” dog operation. We are a hike-in, off-grid property and we have been growing organically in Alaska since 2016.

WHAT WE GROW
Food and Herbal Medicine
We grow a variety of vegetables and berries, raise chickens for eggs and meat, grow medicinal plants and make teas, tinctures and salves. Chances are high that our malamute Maple hauled at least one of your tea ingredients to or from our homestead.

MEDICINAL HERBS
Arnica, calendula, cottonwood, california poppy, devils club, elecampane, feverfew, lemon balm, meadowsweet, nettle, rhodiola, skullcap, valerian and more

VEGETABLES
Beets, brussel sprouts, cabbages, carrots, chard, kale, oats, onions, parsnips, potatoes, zucchini and more
We have become pretty nerdy about potatoes, so if you like talking taters, we are your people.

CHICKENS
From our first two Icelandic Roosters, Remy and Quaff, (long story of failure lol) in 2020, to now a hearty group of 25 laying hens, we have have grown our chicken herd to have consistent eggs year round. We use a water glass method to store summer eggs for winter eating. We also raise Freedom Ranger Chickens for meat.

WHO WE ARE
Neither of us dreamt of a life like ours, yet when Huckleberry brought us here in 2015, we knew it was home. Hiding Birch Farm was formed out of necessity, gumption and a new vision. We, Matt and Kyra, lived in a tent for the first two summers while slowly building a farm in a small slice of a spruce forest. Matt nurtured his green thumb and planted food and medicinal herbs with a resolute vision for the future. Meanwhile, I, an overwhelmed Kyra, grew in heart and mind first, and then studied what to do with all that Matt was growing. Together, we have cultivated a life that is good and we have shared in each other’s failures and successes.
